Tara Fowler-Agnew has been employed with the University Health Network for 14 years.She studied Kinesiology and Science at the University of Waterloo and proceeded to complete the Respiratory Therapy Program at the Michener Institute. Her passion for education led her to continue her studies at Athabasca University where she completed her Masters of Health Studies in the spring of 2017.

Tara worked as a bedside RT in the ICU for 3 years before moving into a leadership role as a RT Practice Leader in 2006.In 2011, Tara started working with patients in the hyperbaric medicine unit at Toronto General Hospital (TGH). She received her CHT certification from the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technologists in 2015, and has been involved in the growth of the hyperbaric medicine unit at TGH by supporting education and research initiatives.

As a RT Practice Leader and Education Coordinator, Tara has had extensive experience with human resource management, budgeting, overseeing operations, as well as operational and strategic planning. Recently, Tara has successfully led several projects to increase the quality and capacity of the RT education program at UHN.Tara’s leadership and expertise in critical care has been instrumental in implementing policy and practice changes for mechanical ventilation, spontaneous breathing trials and trans-pulmonary pressure measurement.

Tara currently works collaboratively with many healthcare professionals on several UHN committees, a city-wide professional practice committee, and the Respiratory Therapists of Ontario Research Committee.
