SUMMARY:Safety Webinar: Examination of a hyperbaric chamber fire
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Melnyczenko will present "examination of a hyperbaric
chamber fire" to discuss the events, investigation, and findings related
to the fatal chamber fire in Troy, MI in January 2025\n\nTime: 7:30pm E
astern \n\nMeeting Summary:\n\nThis presentation examines the January 3
1, 2025 hyperbaric chamber fire in Troy, Michigan, providing a detailed
analysis of the incident, its underlying causes, and the broader safety
lessons for the hyperbaric medicine community. Based on a site visit con
ducted on February 5, 2025, investigators Francois Burman and Andrew Mel
nyczenko identified a static discharge as the ignition source within a 2
.0 ATA oxygen‑enriched environment. As noted in the document, “Fire
was caused by static discharge in a high-oxygen environment at 2.0 ATAâ€
and “Materials worn by the patient ignited instantly.” The rapid e
scalation of the fire, including the rupture of the chamber door seal wi
thin three seconds, underscores the extreme hazard posed by synthetic ma
terials, inadequate grounding, and procedural lapses in high‑oxygen se
ttings.\n\nThis webinar is approved for 2 category A credits from the NB
 DHMT
